Cheran College of Nursing proudly conducted the Lamp Lighting & Oath Taking Ceremony for the 34th Batch of BSc Nursing students on February 8, 2025, at the CIHS Auditorium.
The event began with Thamizh Thaai Vazthu, followed by the lighting of the inaugural lamp by dignitaries. Dr. Mahalakshmi, Vice Principal, welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sathiyakani Thangaraj, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, JIPMER, Puducherry—recipient of the Florence Nightingale & Best Nurse Award 2024.
Dr. Meenakumari, Principal, highlighted the significance of the ceremony, congratulating students on their noble career choice. Dignitaries paid floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, and Mrs. Sathiyakani, along with Dr. Meenakumari, lit the lamp and passed it to the novice students, marking their official induction into the nursing profession.
Mrs. Lindsey Mary, Professor, led the students in the oath-taking ceremony, followed by a soulful song symbolizing their commitment to nursing.
In her inspiring speech, Mrs. Sathiyakani emphasized that the oath symbolizes a lifelong responsibility towards patient care. She encouraged students to embrace compassion, commitment, competence, and courage to excel in their careers, reminding them that nursing ensures guaranteed employment and a fulfilling future.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Vijayabanu, Professor, followed by the National Anthem, a photo session, and refreshments.
